CITY OF PORTERDALE

CITY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING

MINUTES

November 26, 2013

 

Presiding over the meeting was Mayor Arline Chapman.  In attendance were Council Members Anita Rainey – Post 1, Linda Finger – Post 2, Tim Savage – Post 3, and Lowell Chambers- Post 5.  Also in attendance were City Manager, Bob Thomson, City Clerk Megan Reid and City Attorney, Tim Chambers. Mike Harper – Post 4 were absent.

 

Agenda Item 1 - Call to order

Mayor Arline Chapman called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

 

Agenda Item 2- Public Hearing

 

There was no comment from the public.

 

Agenda Item 3-Amendment to the ordinance to allow the use for truck rental in the G-C zoning with a conditional use permit for 53A South Broad St/Hwy 81 South also known as Chvron Gas Station

 

Read allowed by City Attorney Tim Chambers.

 

Representatives from U-Haul and Golden Jubilee, Inc answered questions from Council Member Linda Finger regarding how the approval of this amendment would positively affect the city. Their answer was that it would reduce traffic flow by approximately 3 trucks per day through the city. Council Member Linda Finger responded that was not advantageous to the city.

 

Motion 1- was made by Council Member Linda Finger to deny the application and was seconded by Council Member Lowell Chambers.

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Motion 2- was made by Council Member Linda Finger to go into Executive Session for real estate matters and personnel issues and was seconded by Council Member Tim Savage.

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Agenda Item 4- Executive Session

  • Personnel

 

Motion 3- was made by Council Member Lowell Chambers to close the Executive Session and return to the Called Meeting and was seconded by Council Member Tim Savage.

 

Motion 4- was made by Council Member Lowell Chambers to all the Mayor, City Manager, and City Attorney to deal with the real estate representatives at Greer, Stanfield and Turner to use the most appropriate method of acquisition of 10 North Broad Street  up to and including condemnation in order to clear title and was seconded by Council Member Linda Finger.

 

 

Agenda Item 5-Adjournment

 

Motion 5- was made by Council Member Tim Savage to adjourn and was seconded by Council Member Linda Finger.
